What you run from it

  • Scan a barcode or tap an item; print your own barcode labels
  • Price by hand, or from what it cost plus your margin
  • Stock by delivery: each lot keeps its cost and expiry date; running low shown at the counter
  • Suppliers, purchase orders made from what is running low, and returns to the supplier
  • Customer accounts for regulars who pay later, loyalty points and gift cards
  • Discounts, voids and refunds, each with a reason and a name; a manager's PIN for a void or a refund
  • The cash drawer counted and the day closed; the counter keeps billing when the internet drops

What to know in Germany

Read 4 November 2026 from the official pages linked. A rule can change; your accountant has the last word. Nivasik does not file tax or connect to a tax authority's system: where one is required, keep it and run Nivasik beside it.

  • Germany charges VAT, called MwSt or USt. Prices to private customers are quoted with VAT included, while many business software prices are shown without it. Source
  • Since 1 January 2020 a seller must give a receipt for each sale, on paper or electronically. An electronic till with a cash function must be protected by a certified security module (TSE) under the KassenSichV. A system that only tracks stock and has no cash function needs no TSE. Source
  • A draft law dated 5 August 2026 is proposed but not confirmed. It would require a till from €100,000 total turnover and, from 1 January 2028, replace the paper-receipt duty with a duty to provide a receipt. Source
  • How customers pay: EC-Karte (girocard), Kreditkarte, Apple Pay / Google Pay, PayPal / QR payments, Bargeld still very common. Take it the way you already do and record it on the bill.
