Nivasik’s POS is free for 45 days with everything switched on — billing, tables and kitchen tickets, khata, stock and reports — and we set it up with your menu or stock list. No card.
After that it is ₹1,499 per outlet a month, on its own or alongside any hotel plan; a hotel with a restaurant and a bar runs two outlets. If you stop, nothing is deleted at the end of the trial.
What you can bill with it
- Restaurants, cafes, bars, bakeries, grocery and kirana stores, and shops of every kind — general, clothing, hardware, stationery and more — on its own, or on the same books as a hotel’s rooms.
- Barcode and SKU scanning, and label-scale barcodes that carry the weight.
- Selling by the piece or by the kilo, with a keypad for weight and stock counted in grams.
- Variants and add-ons, combos, and sizes and colours.

What it costs after 45 days
₹1,499 per outlet per month, on any plan or on its own. Per outlet, not per business: each counter that keeps its own takings, its own costs and its own day is one outlet. There is no setup fee and no per-bill charge.
Annual prepay is 10 months for 12. You pay by bank transfer or UPI against an invoice; there is no card to give during the trial or after it.
What it does not do
Said plainly, before you start
- Swiggy and Zomato orders do not arrive by themselves — they are punched in at the counter (the order feeds are only for approved POS vendors).
- No card or UPI terminal integration, no payment gateway.
- No e-invoice (IRN) or e-way bill; GST data is exported, not filed.
- Tally: an import file (CSV), not a live sync.
- Offline billing is for shop counters only.
- A weighing scale is read through label-scale barcodes, not over USB.
- The UPI QR on the bill is for the exact amount, paid to your own UPI ID; the cashier marks the bill paid.

There are ways to do this without paying anybody. Each is worth knowing, and each has a cost that is not on a price list.
A notebook and a calculator
Costs almost nothing and works in a power cut. What it costs is time: every total is added by hand, nobody away from the desk can see it, and an entry can be changed later with nothing to show it was.
A spreadsheet
Free, flexible, and good for a list one person keeps. It struggles when three people edit it on three phones, when a formula is typed over, or when you need to know what it said last Tuesday.
A free edition of a paid product

Open-source software
Free to licence, and some of it is good. You run it yourself: the server, installing it, updates, backups and security are yours, and Indian GST invoices, Form C or a khata usually need adapting.

Cheap and familiar. Every bill is written and added by hand, GST is worked out on a calculator, and at the end of the day somebody adds the carbon copies to see what came in.

Is there free billing software for shops in India?

Does it print GST bills?
Yes — on 80 mm and 58 mm bill printers, with the tax worked out on each line and MRP prices taken apart correctly. It prepares GSTR-1 data for your accountant; it does not file returns or make e-invoices.
Does it work without the internet?
On a shop counter, yes: billing keeps going with real bill numbers and catches up when the connection is back. Restaurant and hotel screens need a connection.
Can customers pay by UPI?
Yes. The bill shows a UPI QR code for the exact amount, paid to your own UPI ID, and the cashier marks it paid. There is no payment gateway, so nothing is charged from the customer’s phone by Nivasik.
Do Swiggy and Zomato orders come in automatically?
No. They are read off the app’s own tablet and punched in, because both keep their order feed for approved POS vendors. Once in, they share the kitchen screen and stock, and the commission is booked as a cost on the value before tax.
