POS and billing
POS and billing software for restaurants, cafes and shops in India
One counter for a restaurant, a cafe, a bar, a grocery, a bakery or a clothing shop — on the same books as the rooms upstairs, or entirely on its own.
Free for 45 days · no card · we do the setup
Nivasik POS is GST billing software in India for restaurants, cafes and bars, and for shops of every kind — groceries, bakeries, clothing, hardware and more. It takes split payments, shows a UPI QR for the exact amount, keeps customers’ khata, takes stock off as it sells, and puts every void, refund and large discount behind a manager’s PIN with a name on the record.
It costs ₹1,499 per outlet a month — as an add-on on any plan, or on its own for a business that is not a hotel — and the first 45 days are free.

- Order types with their own charges: counter, dine-in, takeaway and delivery, with packing and delivery charges, a voluntary service charge, tips and round-off.
- Payments the way India pays: part UPI and part cash on one bill, quick cash with the change worked out, and a UPI QR for the exact amount — a QR on the screen, not a payment gateway.
- Khata: the rest of a bill, or all of it, on a named customer’s running account; the mobile number is required, because a debt with no way to reach the person is a gift.
- Gift cards, wallets and credit notes, returns and exchanges, loyalty points, coupons and happy hours.
- Stock that follows the sale, from a box off the shelf to the rice and dal a thali is made of.
- A cash drawer per counter, a shift close, and End day printing the day-end report.
- Reports down to GST by HSN, GSTR-1 data and a Tally import file for your accountant.
- Bills on 80 mm or 58 mm paper, sized to the bill’s own length, with a feedback QR printed on it.
Who may do what at the till
Ten decisions an owner makes once, per person, instead of at the counter every evening.
| Permission | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Void | Cancel an item or a whole bill, or turn away a QR or online order. |
| Refund | Take goods back, exchange them, or give a credit note. |
| Discount | Type a discount on a bill by hand — offers you set up in advance are not this. |
| Give free | Give an item away at no charge; it is still recorded at its real value. |
| Change price | Sell at a price that is not the menu’s, or add a quick item. |
| Reprint | Print a settled bill a second time. |
| Menu and settings | Change the menu, the tables, or the outlet’s settings. |
| Stock | Count stock, write off wastage, take in deliveries, return goods to a supplier. |
| Khata (credit) | Let a customer take goods now and pay later. |
| Pay out cash | Take money out of the drawer. |
Every login has its own counter permissions, and these are the ten a cashier can be given or refused. When someone tries one they are not allowed, a manager types a PIN on the same screen and the action goes through, landing on the owner’s record with both names. The PIN is checked on its own and gives a two-minute approval; it never travels with the action it approves.
Some settings stay with the owner whatever a login is allowed: the UPI id the QR points at, the GSTIN, the legal name, the FSSAI number, the bill prefix, round-off and the staff discount limit. A cashier who could change the UPI id could point every customer’s payment at their own account.
How a day at the counter works
- Open. The day starts on the business date. A shop can require the shelf to be counted before the first sale, so anything missing from it is found at 8 a.m., not at the month’s end.
- Sell. Tap, scan or weigh; a restaurant sends each round to the kitchen as its own ticket.
- Take payment in one step. Settling is a single call to the database — cash, UPI, card or khata, split any way — so a bill is never left half paid.
- Ask for a say-so when needed. A void on something the kitchen already made, a discount over the limit, a price that is not the menu’s: a PIN, a reason, a name.
- Punch in delivery-app orders from the platform’s own tablet, so they reach the same kitchen and the same stock.
- Close. The drawer counts itself against what was taken, and End day prints the report.
What it does not do
Every counter works within these, whichever business it is in.
Not included, said plainly
- No card or UPI terminal is connected, and there is no payment gateway. The UPI QR shows your UPI id and the amount; someone checks the money arrived before pressing Take.
- Swiggy and Zomato orders do not arrive by themselves — they are read off the platform’s tablet and punched in, because the order feeds are only open to approved POS vendors.
- No e-invoice (IRN), e-way bill or GST filing. GST data is exported, and Tally gets an import file (CSV) rather than a live connection.
- A weighing scale is read through the barcode sticker a label scale prints, not over a USB cable.
- Offline billing is for shop counters. A restaurant’s tables, kitchen tickets, kitchen screen and waiter app need the internet.
- A bill or a reminder can be shared by opening WhatsApp with the message typed in; nothing is sent automatically.
What it costs
₹1,499 per outlet a month. Per outlet, not per property: a hotel with a restaurant and a bar runs two, and each keeps its own takings, its own costs and its own day. It is sold on its own to a restaurant or shop that is not a hotel, and alongside Core, Pro or Group — no plan includes it and no plan blocks it.
Questions people ask
Is there free billing software for shops in India?
Nivasik’s POS is free for the first 45 days with everything unlocked and no card, then ₹1,499 per outlet a month. It is not free after the trial; for a quick tax sum, the free GST calculator on this site costs nothing.
Does the POS work without internet?
On a shop counter, yes: bills carry real bill numbers from a block the device keeps in reserve and sync when the connection returns. Restaurant tables, the kitchen screen and the waiter app need the internet.
Can customers pay by UPI?
Yes. The counter shows a UPI QR for the exact amount and records the payment as UPI, alone or split with cash. It is not a payment gateway, so the cashier confirms the money arrived before closing the bill.
Does it print GST bills on a thermal printer?
Yes, on 80 mm and 58 mm paper, with the GSTIN, FSSAI number, address and phone from the outlet’s settings. The slip is sized to the bill, so a short bill prints short.
Can a hotel run its restaurant on it?
Yes. A restaurant bill can post to a guest’s room and be paid at check-out, while the outlet keeps its own takings and day. Each outlet — a restaurant, a bar — is ₹1,499 a month.
Does it connect to Swiggy and Zomato?
Orders are punched in from the platform’s tablet; they do not flow in by themselves. Once in, they reach one kitchen screen, take stock off, and book the platform’s commission as a cost on the value before tax, with a payout register to check each transfer.
