Free for 45 days

Free payroll software for a small business? Salary and payslips, free for 45 days

Salary from the attendance you mark, divided by the days each month really has; advances taken off; payslips frozen once paid. It is not statutory payroll — no PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS — and the salary calculator on this site is free to use any time.

Free for 45 days · no card · we do the setup

Nivasik does salary and payslips, not statutory payroll. Free for 45 days, it works out each person’s month from the attendance you mark — a day of pay is the salary over the days in that month, half days are half, advances come off the payslip — and freezes a payslip once it is paid. It does not calculate PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS, and it files nothing.

After the trial, People & pay comes with the Group plan (₹2,499 per property a month, from 3 properties). The salary calculator does the same sum for one person, free and with no sign-up.

What it does

  • Salary from attendance — one square per person per day, and a day of pay over the days in that month.
  • Half days are half — never rounded to a whole day either way.
  • Advances — booked as money out on the day they are handed over, and taken off the payslip.
  • Payslips frozen once paid — correcting an attendance mark six weeks later does not move a record of what was paid.
  • Salaries in the day book — paying books the salary as an expense, so the month’s spending is complete.
  • A record of who changed what — salaries, advances and payslips included — that cannot be edited or deleted.

The rule it uses, and why

A day of pay is the monthly salary divided by the days in that month: ₹15,000 is ₹500 a day in September, ₹483.87 in October and ₹535.71 in February 2026. With a fixed 30, February’s days would add up to less than the salary and a 31-day month’s to more; divided by the days the month really has, they always add up to exactly the salary.

If an appointment letter or your state’s rules fix a different method, that method governs.

What it does not do

Said plainly, before you start

  • It is attendance-based pay, advances and payslips — not statutory payroll. It does not calculate PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS, and it does not file returns.
  • Salary: Nivasik computes pay and freezes the payslip; it does not move money to anyone's bank account.
  • It is not a substitute for your accountant: PF and ESI registration, returns and TDS stay with them.

The genuinely free alternatives, and what they cost

There are free ways to work out salaries. In a spreadsheet, =B2/DAY(EOMONTH(A2,0)) gives the day rate for the salary in B2 and the month in A2 — the same rule as above. Here is what each free way costs.

A spreadsheet

Free, flexible, and good for a list one person keeps. It struggles when three people edit it on three phones, when a formula is typed over, or when you need to know what it said last Tuesday.

A notebook and a calculator

Costs almost nothing and works in a power cut. What it costs is time: every total is added by hand, nobody away from the desk can see it, and an entry can be changed later with nothing to show it was.

An accountant or a munshi

The right person for PF, ESI and tax. Paying them to work out days off and advances every month is paying for arithmetic the attendance could do by itself.

Questions people ask

How do I calculate salary for staff in a small business?

Divide each person’s monthly salary by the days in that month to get a day of pay, take off the days off beyond what you allow (half days as half), and subtract any advance. The free salary calculator shows every step.

Should I divide by 30 or by the days in the month?

Dividing by the days in the month keeps every month adding up to exactly the salary; a fixed 30 does not. Nivasik uses the days in the month. If an appointment letter or a state rule fixes another method, that governs.

Does it work out PF and ESI?

No. It is salary and payslips, not statutory payroll: it works out pay from attendance and advances, does not calculate PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS, and files nothing. Those stay with you or your accountant.

What happens to payslips after the trial?

They are kept. If you have not chosen a plan, the account becomes read-only — payslips and attendance still readable — until billing is active.

Is there free payroll software?

There are free ways to work out salaries: a spreadsheet, a notebook, a calculator. Nivasik’s salary and payslips are paid software you can use free for 45 days — attendance-based pay, not statutory payroll — and the salary calculator on this site is free to use any time, with no sign-up.
