A standalone restaurant or shop needs a good POS and nothing else. A hotel with a restaurant, café or bar needs more than that: the restaurant and the rooms have to share a bill. This page explains the difference, and when a POS on its own is the right answer.

If you have no rooms
Then this comparison is not about you: buy a POS. If you have rooms and a restaurant
A hotel's restaurant has one customer a standalone restaurant does not: the guest who says "put it on my room". Everything that goes wrong between a POS and the front desk starts there.
- The slip that never arrives. A dinner charged to a room has to reach that room's folio before check-out. On paper, sometimes it does not.
- Free food with no value. A breakfast included with the room, or given to smooth over a complaint, is a real cost. Recorded at ₹0, it disappears from every report.
- Two days that disagree. The bar's 00:30 bill and the night audit must agree on which day it belongs to.
- Money and revenue get mixed up. One ₹5,000 payment can settle a bill that holds the room and the restaurant; what was received and what each department earned are different questions.
How it works on one ledger
- A restaurant order is posted to the guest's room and appears on the final bill; the check-out screen carries the whole bill.
- Complimentary items are recorded at their real value with a reason — the reason is required — and appear on the bill at zero.
- Payments show money received by method, and a separate revenue split shows rooms, restaurant, laundry, other and discounts — never merged into one figure.
- A hotel with a restaurant and a bar runs two outlets, each with its own takings, costs and day.
When the other option is better

You have no rooms

Questions people ask
Can we buy only Nivasik's POS?
Yes. It is ₹1,499 per outlet a month, on any plan or on its own for a restaurant or shop that is not a hotel.
Can Nivasik's POS post to a room in another PMS?
No. Posting to a room works because the POS and the rooms are on the same books in Nivasik; there is no connection to another company's PMS.
Does a hotel with a restaurant and a bar need two outlets?
If each should keep its own takings, costs and day, yes: the POS is priced per outlet, and a hotel with a restaurant and a bar runs two.
Do Swiggy and Zomato orders come in by themselves?
No. They are punched in at the counter; the order feeds are only for approved POS vendors. Nivasik books the app's commission on the pre-tax value and keeps a payout register.
